Taiwan-Japan venture to be formed

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Syscom Group (凌群電腦) yesterday announced plans that it will form a joint venture company with its Japanese partner the Tokai Communications Corporation (TOKAI-COM) to contend for the greater Sinosphere markets.

The company, to be named “Yun-ma” (雲碼股份有限公司), will be founded with 400 million yen of capital, with each counterpart of the partnership contributing half the amount.

Yun-ma is scheduled to be fully set up in April, and will leverage Syscom's extensive experience in providing software management services under the Capability Maturity Model Integration Level 5 standard, according to Syscom General Manager Liu Rui-long (劉瑞隆).

Yun-ma's offerings will also include the capabilities of TOKAI-COM's extensive cloud-based datacenter to provide services for a wide variety of applications, including medical, databases, electronic transmissions, and systems integration; satisfying the needs of enterprises in Japan, Taiwan, and Japanese enterprises based in China.

Liu stated that the new company will enable greater access to the Japanese market for Taiwanese IT products and services, generating new revenues through software licensing, formation of datacenter alliances, and software retail.

TOKAI-COM is poised to allocate 20 percent of its systems development business to Yun-ma, said Liu. The new company's revenue is expected to reach 1 billion yen or NT$320 million by 2017, and begin to turn profitable by 2016.

“This marks the reaching of a new milestone in Taiwan-Japan collaboration,” said Industrial Development Bureau Director General Shen Jong-chin (沈榮津).
